Completely free of Benzoyl Peroxide, this is a dramatically effective acne treatment with some serious science behind it.  The most important parts of treating acne is killing of the bacteria that cause the pimples, and healing and calming the skin without making the acne itself worse.   That is a very tough challenge, and most companies resort to harsh chemicals to “try” to get the job done.   Dermajuv, on the other hand, tackles the two sides of treating acne Head-on, and does so all naturally. Here is how we reviewed the Demajuv Acne Treatment System on both the clearing and healing sides of the coin.

First, the main ingredient used to kill the acne causing bacteria, in both the cleanser and the acne cream is Resveratrol. Oxford University released a study that showed Resveratrol as equally effective as Benzoyl Peroxide in killing the bacteria, but because it has NONE of the dangerous side effects that benzoyl has, it is a far better solution… Read the study on the Oxford Journals.  More costly, but far better.  As an additional benefit, Resveratrol is a very powerful antioxidant, which can help get the toxins out of the skin too, which boosts the products’ ability to clear acne even further.  Lastly, we have all heard of the miraculous anti aging benefits of Resveratrol.. It has been discussed on Dr. Oz, Oprah, Barbara Walters, and even 60 minutes, as a potential miracle cure for aging.    Resveratrol’s use in Dermajuv’s acne products have nothing to do with the whole “anti aging buzz” surrounding this ingredient, but hey, it’s pretty cool to know that you are not only clearing up your acne, but also giving your skin a powerful anti aging treatment as well.

What else does it have that clears the acne? The cleanser uses Glycolic Acid to gently exfoliate the dead skin and bacteria that often cause acne too.  It’s a gentle treatment that doesn’t run the risk of irritating the acne further, yet it gets the job done of stimulating new healthy cell growth in the skin.  The cleanser also has Tangerine oil in it, which further exfoliates and kills bacteria, while also priming the skin to absorb the therapeutic ingredients that calm and sooth the redness and infection that comes with acne.

FREE of dangerous Benzoyl Peroxide!

There is a huge difference between Dermajuv’s acne system and other industry leaders… Dermajuv refuses to use Benzoyl Peroxide in their creams or cleansers.  The reason is that Benzoyl Peroxide causes Free Radicals in the skin, and that is the same as spending time unprotected in the sun.   Also, it irritates the skin, and often causes the acne to look worse.  Overdry and flaky is often how the skin is described when Benzoyl Peroxide is used.   That, combined with the development of tumors in lab tests with mice, Benzoyl Peroxide is deemed DANGEROUS by Dermajuv and is BANNED from use in any Dermajuv product.

The Zenmed acne treatment review resulted in a fair grade.

The Zenmed Acne treatment “kit” is good and bad in some respects.  Good is the fact that they don’t use Benzoyl Peroxide, but instead they use Salicylic Acid as their big “acne fighter”.   This ingredient is far from the best as far as curing acne, but at least it’s safe.  When you buy the Zenmed kit you get:

• 1 bottle of their cleansing gel
• 1 bottle of their acne treatment gel
• 2 bottles of pills that supposedly clean out your system

The pills that are used in acne treatments, and Zenmed is no exception, are often a waste of time, and WAY over priced.   If you look at this kit, the majority of it is in the pills… 2 bottles, compared to 1 of the others.   However, the cost of the pills can be compared to antioxidant pills in any health food store.  Truthfully, you shouldn’t pay more than $9 for pills of this kind.   So, the inclusion of the pills in their acne system is basically tricky little way to make consumers think they’re getting more bang for their buck.  What you really get though, is a nice cleanser and acne gel, and two bottles of useless pills.

Let’s look at how the cleanser and acne gel work: As far as killing bacteria that causes acne, you’re not getting much power here.  If your acne is serious, you will need to find a more powerful key ingredient that can kill the acne-causing bacteria.  However, Zenmed took some great steps as far as treating the “other” side of acne.  By “other”, we mean the redness and irritation that goes along with the acne.   This is what makes the acne so visible, and is actually, more important to many people than curing the cause of the acne itself.   By blending Vitamin C, Vitamin B5,  Allointin, and Aloe Vera, the zenmed products will do a pretty good job to calm down your skin and get the redness and inflammation to become less.

The cost is  a bit of a problem, however. At $99 or so, it is one of the more expensive acne treatments on the market.  The main problem is that the pills are included, and they don’t do anything for you that you’re going to directly notice in your skin.  So,  you’re paying $99 for a 2 product acne treatment, and frankly, that’s too much.    Considering the fact that the main acne killing ingredient is just Salicylic Acid,  we feel that a more appropriate price would be $50 or so.

Overall our grade is decent, but not great. On the side of killing the acne causing bacteria, we grade them about a C.  However, their ingredients that calm and soothe acne-prone skin are pretty nice, which boosts the grade up to a B.  The price, however, knocks a few points off, and we end up with a C+ for our final grade.

Exposed Acne Treatment offers calming ingredients but still uses Benzoyl

The four piece kit from Exposed Acne Treatment gives you a lot of stuff for your money… A Cleanser, a Clearing Tonic, An Acne Treatment Serum, and a Clear Pore Serum.   It seemed like a lot of stuff for acne-prone skin to deal with, and quite a pain to put on each day, but we kept an open mind.

First, we were happy with one thing we saw.  The fact that this acne kit contains ingredients designed to soothe and calm irritation.  Hey, that’s one of the biggest parts of acne.. the Redness, and visibility of the pimples that we deal with.  If nobody could see the acne, we wouldn’t really care too much about having it, would we?   At any rate, the ingredients like olive leaf extract, green tea, and licorice are known to calm down redness and reduce the swelling and irritation that often goes with having acne.  However, we would have like to see MORE of the more powerful calming agents that some other treatments contain.

That was as far as the “Good news” about this product went as far as the ingredients are concerned.  Another product built around the active ingredient, Benzoyl Peroxide, you are putting your health and skin at RISK if you use this.  The free radicals that Benzoyl Peroxide builds in your skin have links to cancer, and can damage you MUCH like unprotected time in the sun can.

We gave Exposed a try with a tester who was an 18 year old woman.  Her acne was primarily on her cheeks and around the mouth area.  She got slight results during the first week.  Her skin was not as dry as some of the other cases we have experienced with a Benzoyl Peroxide product.  However, there was a shiny-ness to her skin that she reported she did not like.  After the 2nd week, there was not much more improvement, although she did report that her cheeks were slightly less red than they were prior to the treatment.   At the end of the third week, she was reporting no new progress, and discontinued use.   The overall impression of the user was that the product was “OK” but certainly didn’t do what she had hoped, in terms of making her acne go away.

As an overall review of the product, it is hard to recommend this product, due to the harsh side effects and cancer links that Benzoyl Peroxide has, especially when the results were not stellar.

Proactiv 3 step acne treatment system consists of a cleanser, a toner, and a repairing lotion. These three products are the base package, and then Proactiv will sell you an additional moisturizer or oil remover if you desire. We started off reading up on Proactiv before we even used it.  There are lots of complaints from people who claim that their acne got better, but then shortly after got much worse.  There are also lots of complaints saying that people’s skin dried out way too much to continue using it.  Lastly, the other common complaint was that the acne seemed to get more irritated, and turned bright red and was more noticeable than it was BEFORE even starting the product.   Overall, we saw about 10 complaints to every 2 positive responses.   We started to catch on to the fact, that Proactiv’s HUGE advertising budget is intended to just bulldoze all the bad complaints out of the way.   It seems to be working, because a LOT of people have tried this product.

Here are some of the Big Dangers with Benzoyl Peroxide you might not know about… pretty risky, considering the fact that it is no huge help in removing the acne in the first place.   The risk outweighs the reward by far.

• the FDA changed its status in 1995 from Category I (safe) to Category III (safety unknown)
• It causes Free Radicals in the skin, just like unprotected time in the sun
• There are links to cancer in the use on mice
• The free radicals slow down the healing process of skin, so the redness and sores of acne take LONGER to heal
• It drys and irritates the skin, often times making acne look worse or become more painful
